Sisson letter book collection, 1892-1895.

The letter book contains approximately 450 letters written by Frederick W. Sisson. Sisson was treasurer for the Arizona Lumber and Timber Company. However, the correspondence in this collection are of a personal and personal-business nature. The correspondence cover a wide variety of subjects and includes a letter of recommendation to President Grover Cleveland for attorney E.E. Ellinwood who was seeking appointment as U.S. District Attorney for the Arizona Territory.

In 1887 Denis Riordan purchased the Ayer Mill, which had been established in Flagstaff in 1881. Riordan renamed the company the Arizona Lumber and Timber Company and became its first president. Frederick W. Sisson was a local Flagstaff, Arizona, businessman who is notable for having managed the Arizona Lumber and Timber Company. He was born in illinois in 1862 and went to Knox College where he graduated with honors. After working in Peoria, Illinois, for a couple of years, Sisson moved to Flagstaff and became treasurer for the Riordan family company, the Arizona Lumber and Timber Company.
